SEE THE FRENCH QUARTER AND THE OLDEST CEMETERY

TOUR DESCRIPTION

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_1e9b.jpg

Our most popular! It is a combination of our French Quarter tour, the most iconic neighborhood in New Orleans,  and St. Louis Cemetery #1 the city's oldest above the ground cemetery.   We’ll start with a little geography lesson to help you understand how the city developed and grew in the curves of the Mississippi River. Next, we’ll set out walking.  The Vieux Carre was initially settled by Native Americans, before the arrival of the French, Spanish, and enslaved Africans; it is steeped in a rich and vibrant history. We will bring this fascinating past to life by sharing the stories of the people who walked these streets & made up its colorful history. We'll discuss the varied architecture we pass, and the difference between what is Creole and what is Cajun

Next we'll head to St. Louis Cemetery #1, the oldest, and most famous of all New Orleans’ "cities of the dead.”  Just two blocks beyond what were the ramparts of the original city stands the cemetery, enclosed in thick plastered walls. Inside, as we wind through the rows of vaults, you'll see the burial site of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau & other persons of historical interest.  We share some of the stories of both these notable people and their last resting place.
